Disablement pensions service

One very practical service that we provide is our disablement pension's advice and advocacy service. We offer free advice, help with completing claim forms, and the expert services of our team who can attend tribunals to help veterans to assist veterans presenting their pensions cases.

We work on cases related to:

  • War Disablement Pension: for injuries pre 6th April 2005
  • Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) for injuries from 6th April 2005
  • War Widows Pension
  • Supplementary Allowances

We can assist any veteran, whether or not they are a member of Legion Scotland, to pursue their possible entitlement to a War Disablement Pension or a claim under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme. Every year we represent around 200 ex-service personnel at war pension's tribunals and give advice to countless thousands more. If you are already receiving an award you may be entitled to apply for a review or for a worsening of your condition(s).

If your enquiry concerns a service pension and is not related to disablement you should contact Veterans UK Service Pensions on 0800 085 3600 as they will hold your details.

Key facts about claiming a disablement pension

  • Your length of service is irrelevant
  • The only qualification is that the claimant must have suffered a disability or condition which is shown to be attributable to, or aggravated by, his or her service
  • You do not need to have your medical records: these will be made available by the relevant service
  • Physical injuries are the most common claims: this may include injuries that incurred whilst taking part in sporting activities as long as these were officially sanctioned games
  • Mental and psychological disabilities may also be claimable
  • Time Restrictions do apply with regard to which disablement scheme you are applying for. Please contact us to obtain further information prior to the submission of any application

The pension's service is fully-funded by Poppyscotland.

We support hundreds of veterans each year in 93% of all pensions’ tribunals in Scotland. Legion Scotland is an accredited agency of the Free Legal Services Unit (FLSU) of the Faculty of Advocates. Therefore, in certain circumstances veterans may be referred to the FLSU for potential free legal advice and/or representation.
