Fundraising Heroes! - this year’s Poppyscotland Learning competition –invited schools to submit their most innovative fundraising idea, their most sustainable fundraising idea, and their best fundraising-in-action photographs from Appeal 2020.

As with previous competitions, the standard of entries was exceptionally high. The judges were both moved and amused by the submissions and were particularly impressed to see the young people reflect on the importance of passing the Remembrance legacy from generation to generation.

From scores of entries, eight schools have been shortlisted and now go forward to a public vote to determine the winners. The finalists are:

St Mary’s Melrose School, Borders

Park School, East Ayrshire

Rosewell Primary School, Midlothian

Dunnikier Primary School, Fife

Portpatrick Primary School, Dumfries and Galloway

Blairgowrie High School, Perth & Kinross

Oban High School, Argyll & Bute

Our Lady’s High School, North Lanarkshire

Pupils from these schools have produced a promotional video to showcase their entry and to encourage friends, families, their local communities and the wider public to vote for them.

Rhonna Glynn, teacher of History and Social Subjects at Blairgowrie High School, says: “We are very proud that our pupils have made it to the final. The pupils loved using their creative and teamwork skills to come up with some imaginative ideas. All pupils did a great job, and it has been lovely to see their work recognised during this difficult time. It has boosted morale and given us a positive to focus on.”
