Armed Forces Day is on 26 June and, although celebrations will be limited this year, there are still ways to join in.

There is no national Scottish event this year due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, but smaller localised events will be taking place across the country, subject to public health guidance. 

Armed Forces Day is a chance for people to show their appreciation and support for the Armed Forces and what they do, boosting the morale of troops and their families. The first Armed Forces Day in the UK was in 2006, and was formerly known as Veterans’ Day.

This June, parades are scheduled to be held in Aberdeen, Irvine and Dunbar, with other events in various locations, including an Airforce Recognition Day at Skelmorlie, a Bravehound Armed Forces Day Dog Show at Lennoxtown and a special virtual event with live musicians broadcasting from West Lothian.

The Stirling School of English is also staging a week-long art exhibition of students’ work, which will showcase ongoing support for members of the Armed Forces.

If you’re not celebrating in person this year, there are plenty of ways to show your support from home. From a virtual tea party to bingo or a quiz, you’ll find plenty of fun ideas here.
