The Falklands War was a 10 week undeclared war between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over two British dependent territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands and it's territorial dependency, South Georgie and the South Sandwich Islands.

More than 1,000 lives, including those of more than 250 British personnel were lost in the war.  Arbroath based 45 Commando and the 2nd Battalion of the Scots Guards were heavily involved in the war, losing 15 service personnel.

Across the UK events will take place between April and June 2022 to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands.

Falklands War 40th Anniversary Event Edinburgh 18th June 2022

The Royal British Legion Scotland in Partnership with Poppyscotland and The Scottish Government plan to hold an event in Edinburgh to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands War.

The proposed event has still to receive final permissions and approval from the City of Edinburgh Council and confirmation from other stakeholders but in outline the event will consist of the following:

  •  A Parade will form up at 10.00am on Saturday the 18th June 2022 at Charlotte Square Edinburgh

  •  The parade will consist of a Military Band (TBC), The Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guards Association followed by Veterans of the Falklands War and other Conflicts

  • The Parade will step off at approximately 10.15am and will follow a route down the Southern Carriageway of George St entering St Andrews Square. Here a Drumhead Service of Remembrance will take place which will include wreath laying - after the event all wreaths will be transferred to the Stone of Remembrance at the City Chambers

  •  The Drumhead Service will be followed by a programme of entertainment which will last for approximately 2-3 hours with refreshments for the veterans in attendance
