ANZAC and Gallipoli services 

The annual ANZAC service will take place at dawn in Comely Bank Cemetery, Edinburgh, on 25 April at 5am. This event includes an open-air service and the laying of wreaths. Later the same day, a service will be held at the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle. 

Best Kept War Memorial 

The competition to find the nation’s best war memorials is already underway, and we’d love for you to enter your local memorials. Entries close on 26 April, so there are a few months to prepare a submission. Judging takes place between May and August, with a final trophy presentation scheduled for 6 September.

 

Legion Scotland Annual Conference 

For the first time in a number of years, the Annual Conference will be held outside Perth. Running from 17-18 May, the conference will instead be hosted at The Bridge, in Dumfries. Branch and area representatives will be in attendance along with trustees, guest speakers and stallholders.

 

The Scottish American Memorial Day 

On 27 May at 1pm, attendees will join a memorial service at The Call memorial in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. Led by Reverend Peter Sutton, the event will honour the Scots who fought in the First World War.

 

D-Day 80th anniversary 

This year, people across the continent and beyond will mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The official day is 6 June, although there will be activity planned in the few weeks leading up to this time.

 

Kosovo War 25th anniversary 

On 11 June, it will be 25 years since the end of the conflict in Kosovo that began in February 1998. More information will be released nearer the time in regards to any planned events.

 

Armed Forces Day 

Events are planned nationwide for Armed Forces Day on 29 June, an Armed Forces Day event will be held in Edinburgh on 22 June including a parade along George Street in Edinburgh. A flag-raising for the day will have taken place on 17 June at the City of Edinburgh Chambers.

 

Gardens of Remembrance 

Several cities will host Gardens of Remembrance again in 2024. The opening dates are provisionally scheduled for 18 October in Inverness, 21 October in Edinburgh and 22 October in Glasgow. 

Of course, the Remembrance Sunday National Event will follow on 10 November at 11am.
