Royal British Legion Scotland stalwarts John and Jean Alexander have stepped down from their posts of chairman and secretary of Easdale branch. The couple were presented with farewell gifts and heartfelt thanks when members met at the Tigh an Truish Inn, Isle of Seil, on 19th June – the branch's first meeting in 18 months due to Covid-19.

John served as branch chairman for 11 years and Jean secretary for 13 years.  Ron Hetherington is now the new chairman, after being given special permission from Legion Scotland’s national board of trustees to become the first non-veteran to take on a lead role in the whole of Scotland.

Squadron Leader Lorraine Reynolds was also voted in as Easdale branch's new secretary.

Area chairman Mick Connor attended the meeting to witness the historic occasion of Ron becoming chairman, along with his son Scott Connor, who is the area standard bearer. The meeting was held the day after the Legion's Centenary, and a toast was raised to all those who began Royal British Legion Scotland a century ago.
