Each month since February 2021, the Inverurie Breakfast Club has invited local members of the community to eat together and enjoy each other’s company. It’s part of a nationwide network of similar events, known as the Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Clubs (AFVBC). Inverurie’s club was brought to the Aberdeenshire town by Simon Duxbury, the vice-chair of Inverurie and District branch.

Held on the first Saturday of every month, the club has drawn members from the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines, not to mention family, friends and supporters. A record 36 people attended the second anniversary event on 3 February at the usual location of The Gordon Highlander pub on West High Street.

Speaking after the anniversary, Simon said, “Thank you to everybody who gets involved and supports this worthy meet-up. There would be no breakfast without each and every person. I was so pleased to see the turnout we had on the day.”

Branch President Scott Forsyth offered his formal appreciation on behalf of Legion Scotland in the form of a certificate. He explained, “Thank you to Simon for bringing the breakfast club to Inverurie in the first place, and to his wife Donna for her diligent support. It has been a welcome addition to our Legion calendar of events and brings people together in good company.”

If you would like to attend the event, then head along to The Gordon Highlander from 10am onwards on the first Saturday of every month. If you would need more information, or want to make contact ahead of time, please email Simon on [email protected]
