In June, Professor Alex (Sandy) Davison, the former chairman of the Lady Haig Poppy Factory (LHPF) and current president of Jedburgh Branch, was awarded with an MBE by Princess Anne at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Sandy’s career and service to the veterans community is distinguished. A former RNR surgeon lieutenant commander, he joined the board of LHPF in 2003 and in 2008 became its chair; he also joined the board of Poppyscotland, holding both roles until 2021. His commitment and energy during this time has helped to ensure the long-term future of a cornerstone in Scotland’s Remembrance activities. He initiated Poppyscotland’s much-loved schools visit programme, along with modernisations throughout the organisation.

During 18 years of service, Sandy has given wonderful encouragement and support to the management and staff he has worked alongside. He has been an unflinching advocate for LHPF and more generally for the veterans community in Scotland. His hands-on approach and his obviously deep affection for the work of LHPF have been hugely appreciated by everyone involved.
