In total, Isobell Johnston, Sandra Graham, Eddie Hopkins and Jim Deakins managed to raised £1,525 for charity, which is the equivalent of three days’ care for a patient at the hospice.

Isobell explained, “Sober October came about when we were sitting in the club talking about the past year and how very recently we had all lost someone close to us either family or friends. It was during that chat that we decided to do something positive in their memory and it was then decided that we would go sober for the month of October.”

She added, “We chose Strathcarron Hospice as it is a local hospice that serves Cumbernauld and the surrounding area. The hospice provides excellent palliative care and also a wide range of services including respite, home visits and supporting families of people going through a life limiting illness.

“At one point or another the four of us have had some connection with the hospice through one of their many services and the compassion and professionalism they do it with is amazing.

“We would like to thank the branch and the members for their support during this and for their part in the amazing amount raised.”
