MELROSE

John (Jack) Dun

John Dun, known as Jack, has sadly passed away at the age of 97.

Jack grew up in Melrose. He enlisted in the Army in 1944, was commissioned in 1946 in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB), and served in the Border Regiment in India at the time of partition.

He followed his father's footsteps as an agricultural merchant, specialising in seeds, but his real passion was for rugby. A player himself, he became a highly respected referee. Jack attended every Melrose Sevens tournament, except for 1947-8 when in India; he served as president of Melrose Rugby, and continued to attend committee meetings for the rest of his life.

He was predeceased by his wife and daughter, and is survived by two sons.
