MELROSE

Donald McGregor Campbell

Donald McGregor Campbell died peacefully in the Borders General Hospital on 8 September 2023. He was born in Hawick in 1933 and grew up in Darnick, Melrose, and became a cabinet maker's apprentice at the age of 15.

In 1953, Donald was conscripted into the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and served in Northern Ireland. He was a piper, and also a rugby player of note, representing both the British Army and the Combined Services, and after demob, Melrose Rugby as well. He was elected Melrosian in 1957.

Large numbers of ex-Melrosians were present at his funeral service, also attended by very many friends and family members.

Angus ‘Iain’ John Sinclair

Angus John Sinclair, known as Iain, sadly passed away on 6 October 2023 at the age of 87.

Iain was a well-known man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. This was emphasised by the large number who turned out for his funeral. He was very active until around the end of August this year, and always made himself available to help at any fundraising events. He will be sorely missed, and our thoughts are with his wife Sheena and family at this sad time.
