Iain Norris

It is with deep regret that Strathspey branch announces the sudden death of their chairman, Iain Norris, who passed away on 22 November 2022.

Iain took over as chairman in 2018 and his leadership just before and during the Covid lockdowns helped steer the redevelopment of Strathspey’s club rooms. His efforts, along with those of many other loyal members, resulted in a club which is admired by all.

‘Upside down Iain’, as he regularly referred to himself because of his appearance, was a familiar sight in the clubrooms where he liked nothing more than a pint of Guinness, friendly banter, and finding out all the latest news. His presence will be much missed, and he will not be forgotten.

This photograph was taken of Iain at Remembrance Sunday just a few days before his passing. Strathspey branch’s sincere condolences are sent to his family and close friends.

Donald Alick Hendry

Donald (Donnie) Alick Hendry sadly passed away on 12 November 2022 in Raigmore Hospital.

Donnie served in the Navy for two and a half years, taking part in the Normandy landings and later serving in Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka). In 1947 he joined the Air Force, serving in the UK, Egypt and Palestine. He received a WW2 coin and certificate for his services.

Sadly, he lost his wife Vida a few years ago. He was a past secretary and convenor of the Tain branch, with a wealth of knowledge. A real gentleman in all aspects of life, and a true friend to many, he will be sadly missed, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

The Kilwinning branch has announced the death of two of its members this year:

Bartholomew Dolan {'Wee Bertie’) passed away 5 March 2022.

Moira Colquhoun MBE passed away 20 April 2022.

Brian Matheson

A stalwart of the Inverness Branch, sadly passed away on the 2nd of July 2022 after a short illness.

Brian served on the Branch Committee having held the office of Vice Chairman, Chairman, President and was made a Hon Vice President. He was also a Life Member of Highlands and Islands Area Council.

He did his National Service in the REME and served in Aden. On leaving the Army he joined the Branch and then the Branch Committee and was active in the Branch till the end. He also served on the Club Committee and held the post of Chairman on several occasions.

Brian will be sadly missed by all.

Alexander (Alex) Semple

Alex sadly passed away on Wed 16th Nov 2022. Alex worked for 48 years with Morrison construction Tain. He was well known and was a very well- respected member of the community. A member of the Tain branch RBL for quite a number of years, he served in The Royal Engineers.

At this time our thoughts go out to his dear wife Elisha, and all extended family.
