INVERGORDON

James Macdonald

James ‘Dooker’ Macdonald, a long-time member of the Invergordon branch has passed away peacefully after a short illness. He died on Friday 18 June 2021, aged 92 years, at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

He was a ship’s cook who went on to work for Balfour Beatty, installing power lines in Scotland and Kenya. He then became a linesman with North of Scotland Hydro Electric board.

He always volunteered when there was an emergency and, until he retired at the age of 62, he was part of a team responsible for keeping the network repaired and the lights on.

Loving husband of Joyce, beloved father of Wendy, Ross and Neil, much-loved Gaga to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother and a good friend to many. He will be sadly missed.

Bill was an active member of Lochbroom branch right up to his sudden death aged 91 and gave service for many years as the branch treasurer. Bill also was a great organiser, assisted by his wife Chris, of Branch social events including the annual bus run and senior citizens Christmas dinner which he took pleasure in booking and organising the evenings entertainment.

Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him and we thank him for his many years of support, service and friendship to Lochbroom branch and Legion Scotland
